About Us

The JC Steele House

Built in 1877, this is the former home of JC Steele.  JC Steele was the founder of the JC Steele and Son company which is just across the street and automated brick making.  He owned a saw mill when this home was built.  There is a rich history behind the man.... and the home as well.  We are enjoying the renovation and look forward to opening our doors in the future as a bed and breakfast and event venue.

We purchased the house in Dec, 2016.  We have come a long way but have much more to do.

The History of JC Steele

JC Steele has a large extended family in the area and there is a rich history.  JC served in the civil war as a member of the band and medic.  However, the story is far more interesting than that.  He wrote a book which was published in 1920 just after his passing which tells the story.  JC actually sat at the table when Lee and Grant negotiated the surrender.  The stories he tells about people he knew from this area throughout the war and his time with Lee and Grant in the negotiations are amazing.  We are working to have the book republished with the support of the Steele Family and will keep you posted when it is ready.

Statesville

Once comparable in size to Charlotte, Statesville has the buzz of a city that is coming into its prime.  At the intersection of interstates 40 and 77, Statesville is well positioned and on your way going practically anywhere.  The small city has a unique charm which has been sought after for filming major motion pictures and for a lifestyle that is relaxed and welcoming.  Tree lined downtown streets and quaint local businesses make Statesville a great city to call home or to visit.  There is a lot to do and many areas to jump off to from here making this small town an out of the way, on the way, destination.

Your Event Venue

We tested this out on our own wedding.  The house will be one of the greatest places to host your events in Statesville.  With over an acre and such a stunning property, our outdoor venue is perfect for many events.  We also can coordinate to have tents to accommodate for unpredictable weather.

We welcome tours but only with an appointment now.  Please contact us ahead of time.  We hope to offer a Spring community tour event starting in 2021 after all renovations are complete.  However, we can not accommodate tours for those who do not contact us in advance.  This is, after all, our home too.  While we are stewards of this amazing property we do live in it.
